Ontario College Faculty Labour Negotiations

As you may be aware, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) representing faculty at Ontario’s 24 public colleges and the College Employer Council – the provincial bargaining agent for the colleges – are currently in negotiations regarding a new collective agreement.

OPSEU has requested and received a no-board report from Ontario’s Ministry of Labour. This means college faculty will be in a legal strike position as of January 4, 2025. The union must provide five days’ notice before any planned labour action.

We understand that students may have concerns about the effects of a potential labour disruption on their college applications. 

The labour negotiations only affect college faculty, such as professors, instructors and librarians. There’s no impact on college admissions processes.

OCAS and the colleges are continuing to accept applications, receive student grades, and send offers of admission as normal.
